  The plant is well-known for its dramatic flower spike that appears late in the plant's life. In its native habitat of Mexico and the southwestern U.S., the plant's blooms are mainly pollinated by bats. 

  
  
• Uses

  Agave americana can be used in making tequila-like liquor. The roots, sap, and juice of agave are also used to make medicine.
